Monitoring Subagents

When subagents are working, Multi provides multiple ways to monitor their activity and dive into their details.

Subagent activity appears inline in your main conversation. As the supervisor delegates work, you’ll see entries for each subagent showing what they’re working on and their current status.

Click any subagent entry in the chat to open its detailed view.

At the top of the action bar, a subagents bubble appears when agents are active. This bubble shows:

  • Number of active subagents
  • Quick status of each worker
  • Visual indicator when a subagent needs attention

Click the bubble to expand the list and select any subagent to view its details.

When you open a subagent, you get a focused view of that worker’s activity:

The header displays key metrics at a glance:

  • Messages - How many messages have been exchanged
  • Tool calls - Number of tools the subagent has invoked
  • Usage - Token consumption for this specific subagent

At the top of the subagent view, you’ll see the original task that the supervisor assigned. This shows exactly what the subagent was asked to accomplish.

Below the task, the full conversation unfolds-every message, tool call, and output from that subagent’s work. This gives you complete visibility into how the subagent approached and executed its assignment.

Two ways to get back to the supervisor view:

  • Click the back button in the top left
  • Press Esc on your keyboard

The subagents bubble remains accessible even when viewing a specific subagent. Use it to quickly jump between workers without returning to the main chat first.

When viewing a subagent, the conversation is read-only-you cannot send messages directly to a subagent. The supervisor coordinates all work.

The exception: when a subagent needs action from you (approval, answering a question), input becomes available. See Handling Actions for details.
